Aintree race course has been home to the Grand National since the mid 19th Century. By far the most successful horse in Grand National history was Red Rum, the only horse to win the Grand National three times - 1973, 1974 & 1977. Red Rum also came second in 1975 & 1976. Memorable achievements include three consecutive winners for the same trainer - Vincent O'Brien - who's horses won the Grand National in 1953, 1954 & 1955. In 1967 the winning horse was Foinavon, a rank outsider at odds of 100/1. In 1973, Red Rum won his first Grand National beating the current champion 'Crisp' & is regarded as the most memorable Grand National of all time.
